Join the GROWL Task Force
The GROWL Task Force is our initiative to open up gravitational-wave research to people beyond the lab. Anyone, from the curious public to industry professionals and students anywhere, is welcome to join. As a participant you can:
- Follow the lab and see what we’re working on, week to week;
- Get the news: updates, results, and behind-the-scenes stories from the group;
- Contribute to real science by working alongside us on genuine research problems.
You don’t need to be an astrophysicist to take part, just curious. Participants from industry bring software and data-engineering expertise, students get mentorship and new career pathways, and everyone gets a firsthand look at how science is done.

San Diego and the Astronomy Department at UCSD
UC San Diego & the Astronomy Department
The UCSD Astronomy department represents a dynamic research community. As a newly independent department (separated from Physics), it has recently recruited over five new faculty members, strengthening its already collaborative environment. The department encompasses experts in theory, observations, data science, and instrumentation.

The city offers year-round sunshine, beaches, outdoor recreation including surfing and volleyball, and wildlife viewing. It provides vibrant urban amenities with cultural venues, dining, and shopping alongside natural attractions including the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park.

Fellowship opportunities include NSF, NASA FINESST, Hertz, and Department of Energy programs (some with October 15, 2024 deadlines).
Research interests span “stellar evolution, neutron stars & black holes, basically anything gravitational waves, astro-statistics, AI, simulations, data science, white dwarfs, pulsars, kilonovae, GRBs & SNe, and many more topics.”
